For those who may have not heard your music how would you describe yourself?
I would probably describe our music as a fusion of retro style rock and soul with a modern twist.
The start of the year saw a change in lineup within The Rising Souls, how has this had an affect the direction of the band?
The Latest Ep “Set Me Free” was recorded in Prague why did you choose to record there?
Basically a couple of years back I opened a show in Glasgow for Dan Reed at the ABC. We ended up speaking after the show and decided to keep in touch. Dan is from Portland in America but had not long moved across to Prague. We played at his ‘Enchanted’ festival in Essex and had a few trips across to Prague for a few gigs. On our last trip over we had just changed lineup and Dan offered to produce our new EP with his good friend Ian Kelosky. When we arrived at the studio and laid the first track down we knew we had to record the new tracks with these guys. It just seemed to click.
What track do you feel stick out the most?
My personal favourite track on the EP would have to be ‘Learn To Love Me’. This track really shows what direction we are going in and has that raw vintage feel to it.
What has the response been like of the news of the release of the “Set Me Free” Ep?
We had been a little worried about the reaction we might get on the transition from an acoustic trio to a full on rock band…but any shows we have done so far have went down pretty well. We played our first full band gig supporting glasgow based country band Raintown at King Tuts a couple of months ago and it eased any doubt. We believe the move has been for the best and we are growing in confidence at every show.
On the 26th of November you will launch the Ep at The Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh how does it feel playing such an established venue to your home crowd?
It’s dream come true being able to headline The Liquid Rooms. We have all seen so many big bands playing there and it has always been a favourite venue of mine. We are very grateful to everyone who comes to see us because if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be able to launch our new EP in a venue the size and quality of The Liquid Rooms.
As we are coming to The end of the year what’s been your highlights from 2016?
And the one question we all know next, what can we expect from 2017 from The Rising Souls?
We are all very excited about next year. We are already planning some trips around Europe and we are hoping to record a full album with Dan and Ian ASAP. We are going to be busier than ever and we have some exciting things in the pipeline. Will 2017 be our year? Maybe it will or maybe it won’t…but I do know we are going to carry on playing every gig like it’s our last.
